Barça turned down Moura - Tottenham wanted fee above market value
At Barcelona, mainly Neymar made the headlines in the last few weeks before the transfer window closed. While negotiating a possible deal for PSG’s star striker, the Catalans also had the chance to sign Lucas Moura (photo) from Tottenham, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The 27-year-old Brazilian was reportedly on Barça’s radar as an alternative to his fellow countryman Neymar. An agreement on the transfer has not been reached before deadline day, however, because Spurs wanted more than €50 million (£45m) for the player - at least £9 million more than his market value. Barcelona rejected this deal.
Neymar as well as Moura remained at their recent clubs in the end. Moura has five years left on his current Tottenham contract. He joined the club for £25.6 million from PSG in January 2018 and registered 15 goals and two assists in 49 matches in all competitions last season. Especially his three goals in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final against Ajax caught the eye.
