Süper Lig market values: Record increase for wonderkid Kılıçsoy - Fener ahead of Gala

All 599 players of the Turkish Süper Lig have received new market values, and the big winner is 18-year-old Semih Kılıçsoy. The striker has been the main attraction in Besiktas’ attack this season. But there has also been a change at the very top of the squad value ranking, where Fenerbahçe have leapfrogged Galatasaray. This is a surprising development considering that Gala are two points ahead of Fener in the table at the moment.

“The two Turkish top clubs have signed several prominent players from abroad, but the key roles have been taken up by domestic players like Ferdi Kadıoğlu, İsmail Yüksek, Barış Alper Yılmaz and Kerem Aktürkoğlu,” Area Manager TM Turkey Gökhan Yagmur said. “Fenerbahce are ahead of Galatasaray because many of their top transfers didn’t have an impact. As a result, Galatasaray dropped by €13m.” 

While at Galatasaray 13 players were downgraded, which meant the squad value dropped from €206.3m to €193.4m, Fenerbahce saw their squad value drop by just €0.8m to €201.5m. “Fenerbahce’s transfers have been more successful and are still in Europe as well,” Yakmur said. “The duo has dominated the Turkish league, but to be above €200m in squad value, we want to see more success in Europe or big transfers like Sacha Boey to Bayern Munich.”

Right-back Boey was sold for €30m last winter, becoming the most expensive transfer in Süper Lig history, and quite a few believe that attacking talent Kılıçsoy could break that record. The U19 national team player has been directly involved in ten goals this season while playing just 1088 minutes. As a result, his market value has increased from €550,000 to now €8m, which ranks him fourth in the world among all strikers aged 18 or younger. 

Turkey expert Yagmur on Besiktas talent Kılıçsoy: “Some experts believe he could generate between €35m and €40m, which isn’t unrealistic. But now he is still some way off that. He had a good start, but, especially in the game against Galatasaray, he couldn’t perform. Nonetheless, this young talent receives the biggest upgrade in the Süper Lig in Transfermarkt history. The market for talents justifies the increase and he could further rise until the summer. One benchmark could be actual offers from other clubs.” 

Icardi no longer the most valuable player – Fred confirms market value

The €10m that Galatasaray paid to PSG for Mauro Icardi made the Argentine the most expensive over 30-year-old transfer in Turkey’s history. As of today, he is no longer the most valuable player in the Süper Lig. Undoubtedly the most glamorous player in the Süper Lig, Icardi saw his market value drop from €20m to €18m despite some pretty good performances. Fenerbahce’s Fred, who is also 30 and was signed for €9.74m, saw his market value of €19m confirmed in this update. The Brazilian is now ahead of Icardi but not the most valuable player in the league.

“Fred and Icardi had some commonalities ahead of the season,” Yagmur said. “Both are the same age when they were signed and cost around €10m despite being on short-term contracts with their previous clubs, making them quite expensive for 30-year-olds. The difference between the two is that Icardi had quite a bit of influence on Galatasaray’s play at the start of the season, but since then, his form has dropped somewhat, and his club was eliminated from Europe. Fred’s impact at Fenerbahce has remained consistent, and the club is still in Europe. As a result, Icardi drops by €2m, and Fred remains the same, ranking him just ahead of the Argentine.” First in the ranking are the Fener duo Ferdi Kadıoğlu and Sebastian Szymanski, with a market value of €20m each (overview).
