Kylian Mbappé is comfortably the best paid player in the world with the French superstar earning €6 million per month at PSG. Mbappé reportedly earns more than double the second best paid player Harry Kane, who earns €2.1m per month at Bayern Munich

Reputable French outlet L’Equipe have published a list of the biggest earners in Ligue 1 but they’ve also revealed the salaries of players across Europe. Unsurprisingly, five English Premier League players feature in the top ten list, which doesn’t include bonuses inserted in contracts.

The top ten best paid footballers in the world

Mbappé is in the last year of his contract with PSG which earns him an annual gross salary of €72m after he penned a bumper new three-year deal in 2022. The Parisian club made an eye-watering offer to avoid losing Mbappé on a free transfer but the 25-year-old is expected to depart this summer with Real Madrid his mooted destination. The Spanish giants aren’t expected to match Mbappé’s current contract at PSG but he will become their top earner.

As the graphic above illustrates, Kane ranks second with the England captain reportedly earning €2.1m after moving to Bayern Munich last summer from Tottenham Hotspur. Manchester City duo Kevin de Bruyne and Erling Haaland rank third and fourth respectively. Although De Bruyne (€2.02m per month) has a higher base salary than Haaland, it’s widely understood that the Norwegian international is Man City’s top earner due to achievable bonuses in his contract. David Alaba completes the top five with the Austrian international taking home €1.88m each month. The major factor behind Alaba’s high wage is that he joined Real Madrid on a free transfer from Bayern Munich and therefore was offered a huge salary as no fee was required. Two over La Liga stars make the top ten in Robert Lewandowski and Jude Bellingham while Manchester United duo Casemiro and Raphaël Varane complete the top ten alongside Liverpool’s Mo Salah.
