Mauro Manotas to join Club Tijuana - Report: Houston to receive record fee

Houston Dynamo have sold star striker Mauro Manotas to Liga MX side Club Tijuana. The Major League Soccer side confirmed the deal on Tuesday. The club will receive a transfer fee and receive a percentage of future transfers and performance-based add-ons. The club did not disclose the fee, but MLSSoccer.com reported that the deal's structure was similar to the one Houston negotiated with Boavista for Alberth Elis.

Update Dec. 9: According to a report by the very reliable MLSSoccer.com writer Tom Bogert, the Dynamo will receive in the region of $4 million, including easy to reach incentives. There will also be a 25% sell-on clause. The deal makes Manotas the most expensive departure in Houston Dynamo club history. 

“Mauro came to the Dynamo as a teenager and leaves having scored over sixty goals for the club," Houston Dynamo general manager Matt Jordan said in a club statement. "He’s been a key contributor in important moments and helped lead the club to a championship during his time in Houston. It’s been rewarding to see him develop and grow over the years."

Manotas scored 64 goals in 167 games for the Dynamo and saw his market value develop from $100,000 to now $4.4 million, making him the most valuable player on the Dynamo squad. “I am eternally grateful for the belief and support this Club made to help me grow as a person and as a player since I joined the team,” Manotas said. “I will miss you, Houston. This has been my home for the last five years, and we have so many memories tied to this beautiful city."
