Bayern's Alphonso Davies drops - BVB's Giovanni Reyna once again on the up

On Wednesday, Transfermarkt has updated the market values of 479 Bundesliga players. Also impacted were North American stars Alphonso Davies, Giovanni Reyna, Tyler Adams, Matthew Hoppe, and John Anthony Brooks.

"What do you think it should be?" Hoppe said when asked by Transfermarkt about his new market value on Tuesday. The FC Schalke 04 striker has scored five goals in his first ten Bundesliga games. As a result, his market value has now been adjusted from originally €100,000 to €3 million. An increase of 2900%. 

Background Matthew Hoppe interview Read it here Hoppe is not the only US teenager with a new market value. Just 20 miles separate Schalke's Veltins-Arena from Borussia Dortmund's SIGNAL IDUNA Park. The gap in market value between Schalke's Hoppe and BVB's Giovanni Reyna is a bit more significant, however. The 18-year-old Reyna has seen his market value grow from €30 million to now €38 million. The increase in his market value is somewhat surprising given Dortmund's recent development. "Reyna is a consistent starter and has gained significantly in experience," Transfermarkt's Bundesliga Market Value Admin Tobias Kröger said. "He continues to be a top talent." 

Davies down - Adams and Brooks gain 

At Bayern Munich, Alphonso Davies experienced his first-ever true market value drop. Like all players, the Canadian saw 10% of his market value shaved off in April when Transfermarkt adjusted all values due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This time his market value dropped from €80 million to €75 million, enough to retain the number one spot among all Concacaf players, just ahead of Chelsea's Christian Pulisic. 

"Davies has struggled to overcome the ankle injury he suffered in October," Kröger said. "Furthermore, like many Bayern players he had to pay tribute to the many games his club has played. The stress that comes with the difficult schedule has made it difficult for Davies to play the sort of dynamic style that has seen his market value grow last season. It is, however, just a small tendency, which could easily go in the other direction over the coming weeks."

Meanwhile, two US players have been trending in the right direction. Wolfsburg's Brooks saw his market value go from €10 million to €12 million and Adams made the jump from €16 million to now €20 million. Both remain in fifth and sixth place respectively when it comes to the most valuable US men's national team players.

"Adams has fully established himself at RB Leipzig," Kröger said. "He has made a big jump in his development and is showing good performances consistently. For Leipzig, he is an important player as he can play various positions, which makes him a perfect fit for Julian Nagelsmann. The coach loves players that can be used in various positions without dropping their level in performance."
