Austin FC select Hoesen, Stroud, Scott & Corona - Squad value breaks $10m mark
After picking up four players on the half-day MLS trade window on Sunday, Austin FC have selected five more players in the MLS Expansion Draft on Tuesday. The Major League Soccer expansion side picked Danny Hoesen from the San Jose Earthquakes, Jared Stroud from the New York Red Bulls, Brady Scott from Nashville SC, Joe Corona from LA Galaxy, and Kamal Miller from Orlando City.
Miller, however, will not stay at the club. Immediately after making the pick, Austin announced that the Canadian striker had been traded to the Montreal Impact in exchange for $225,000 in General Allocation Money and a first-round draft pick (11th overall) in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft.

“Balance is a big part of it,” Austin FC head coach Josh Wolff said in a club statement. “We want the right amount of experience and the right amount of youth.”
The four new players bring the current squad size up to 11 players—two of them Rodney Rede and Cecilio Dominguez are currently out on loan in their native Paraguay. WIth 11 players now officially under contract, Austin FC have now broken the $10 million for their overall squad value (check out the squad here).
“We want players who are dynamic and have power and speed,” Wolff emphasized. “We want to play a certain way, and it's going to take some level of physicality, and it's also going to take a level of quality, calm and control to deal with situations.
