Alistair Johnston traded to CF Montréal - Nashville SC receive record fee
The deal is now official. On Monday, CF Montréal have announced that they have acquired Canadian men's national team defender Alistair Johnston from Nashville SC. It is a record deal for Nashville SC as the Major League Soccer club will receive $1 million in General Allocation Money (GAM) over two years—$750,000 in 2022 and $250,000 in 2023. Nashville will also receive 10% of any future fee above $1 million. As part of the deal, Johnston also has signed a two-season extension with club options for 2024 and 2025.
“We are pleased to welcome this young Canadian who had a strong desire to join the Club,” CF Montréal sporting director Olivier Renard said in a club statement. “Beyond his footballing qualities, Alistair has demonstrated an exemplary mindset with the Canadian national team. He is a versatile defender who can play both as a right-back as well as part of a three-man defense. We will continue closely working with him to further his progression. We are delighted to welcome him to the team.” Johnston is the third most expensive acquisition in Montréal's history.
