World Cup call-ups per club & league: Bayern first - Premier League contributes €4b in value
Almost the entire Bayern Munich squad will be on show at the 2022 World Cup. No other football club is sending as many players to the tournament in Qatar as the Bundesliga record champions. Premier League holders Manchester City, whose league is unrivalled in terms of the total value of the players it sends to the tournament, contributes one player less and yet a higher combined market value.
A total of 17 Bayern players will travel to the controversial host country for the global showdown, which has seen a widespread boycott movement form among fans and others due to its human rights record. Only seven players from the Bundesliga giants’ squad are therefore missing, including the two back-up goalkeepers and two Austrians, whose country failed to qualify.

The eleven players of Paris Saint-Germain, including the likes of Neymar and Kylian Mbappé, reach the highest average with €54.27m. With 15 players at the World Cup, Qatari club Al-Sadd SC has more footballers in the group stages than Manchester United (14) and Real Madrid (13), among others. The most valuable Bayern Munich player at the tournament is German youngster Jamal Musiala (€100m), while England midfielder Phil Foden (€110m) tops the ranking at Man City.
2022 World Cup: Players called up from English clubs break €4b mark
England remains the world’s top market for World Cup players as well. With a total of over 160, the English professional leagues have the most footballers in Qatar. The almost 140 players from the Premier League clubs alone are worth a total of over €4.2b. The football leagues from Spain (86) continue to provide the second most players, while 81 footballers at the tournament are under contract in Germany. Also in terms of total market value, the players from the German top tier, at around €1.9b, are behind Spain’s LaLiga at just over €2.2b.
Fourth place in the international ranking is occupied by the 70 players plying their trade in Italy. Serie A contributes €1.25b in market value, although the Azzurri did not qualify for the World Cup. Clubs from France have the fifth most footballers at the World Cup with a total of 58, while the Équipe Tricolore is the national team among the top European nations with the fewest players from its own league (6) in Qatar.
