Aston Villa sign Dendoncker from Wolves - Summer spending surpasses €70m mark
Aston Villa have completed a move for Wolves defensive midfielder Leander Dendoncker before the transfer window draws to a close. With one year remaining on his contract at the Premier League side, Dendoncker, who has a market value of €28 million, only costs a reported fee of €15m.
The move, which could prove to be Aston Villa’s final piece of business in the transfer window, takes the club’s summer spending up to €70m, following the arrival of Diego Carlos and Robin Olsen, as well as Philippe Coutinho’s loan move being made permanent. Contrastingly, the move takes Wolves’ income from summer sales up to €55m for the current transfer window, having spent an impressive €136m on new signings.
Dendoncker initially made the move to the Premier League in 2019, joining the club from Anderlecht for a fee of €13.8m. In that time, the midfielder made over 150 appearances for Wolves, bagging 12 goals and four assists along the way. In that period Dendoncker’s value shot up from €15m to a career high of €32m, before settling back down to where it is now at €28m.
